WE CROSSED OUR WAKE TODAY!

A final check of the forecast, Bo gets his dose of “bumpy ride Benadryl”, fire up the engines and off we go from Port Washington Marina at 8:00am. We needed to cover 58 miles as quickly as possible to be in Kenosha before the winds pick up later in the afternoon.

The seas were initially 1-2 feet, later growing to 2-3 ft. The wave height was not so bad, it was the direction that made it interesting. We had waves coming about 30 degrees port side of our stern. This provided us with a constant roll side-to-side along with the up-and-down. Bo was not happy, but he hung in there.

We had rigged the boat for a rough ride, but still had some interesting things going on in the main cabin. The recliner was sliding back forth to the middle of the salon, Bo’s room was constantly on the move, a lamp near the galley took a dive, and an assortment of books got scatter across the galley (see photos).

We were about 5 miles offshore as we passed Milwaukee, we cleared Wind Point near Racine and could then see Kenosha in the distance. We passed the Kenosha ship channel and lined up our approach for Southport Marina.

At 1:18 pm, we crossed our wake as we arrived at Southport Marina in Kenosha, Wisconsin. One year and one week after we left Kenosha’s Southport Marina, we have returned! It was an amazing year (and week) and we feel so fortunate that we had the opportunity to experience this wonderful journey.

Our gold AGLCA burgee is now flying from our bow with pride and gratitude to all who have followed, supported and become acquaintances and friends throughout our trip.
