The trip from Pelican Harbor Marina to Boynton Beach took about 8 hours. Most of it is in no-wake or minimal-wake zones. We had to go under 23 bridges, eight of which had to be opened for us. We passed through Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades with its cruise and cargo ships, and went by many big beautiful homes with luscious landscaping along the ICW. Hoping the predicted wind would hold off until we got to our destination was only that, a hope. During the last hour the wind picked up considerably! Between a choppy channel, the wind, and a couple of, let’s see, how to put it nicely… useless boat captains, it was a challenge to hold position while waiting for the last couple of bridges to open. Finally we got to the marina and after (as gracefully as possible) docking, tied up to the end of the fuel dock with the help of the dockmaster.

We have friends from our homeport marina who now live nearby in Palm Beach Gardens, Andy & Liz, and other marina friends, Maggie & John, who happened to be here visiting them with their son, Alex, who was on Spring Break. We met up with all five of them for lunch at the restaurant next to the marina, Two Georges. After lunch we walked back to the boat and hung out for the afternoon. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces and catch up with everyone!

A couple days later, Andy & Liz picked us up for a day of fun! We toured some of the amazing and beautiful homes which are often empty now that spring is here and snow birds are heading back north. We took a quick spin past the highly secured streets near Mar-a-Lago, and had a marvelous lunch at their place prepared by Liz and Andy. Bo also got to go for a swim in their pool! He was interested but hesitant. After a couple of times in the water he got the hang of it and could swim like a champ.

We will move further north tomorrow and actually be even closer to Andy & Liz’s home.
